About the course
Thermal engineering deals with the design of machines that minimize the heat produced in industrial processes to minimize the energy loss in the processes. These cooling systems should be cost effective, compact in size and easily utilized with maximum performance.
M. Tech Thermal Engineering is a postgraduate degree in heat transport and energy flow. The M. Tech Thermal Engineering programme lasts two years and consists of four semesters.
The M.Tech. (M. Tech. Thermal Engineering with specialization) programme was started in the Academic Year 2023-2024 under the department of Mechanical Engineering. This program is offered with specialized streams in Electronics Cooling, Renewable Energy, Gas Dynamics, and Computational Fluid Dynamics. This programme has a well-organized curriculum and cutting-edge facilities to satisfy the growing need for human resources in the field of thermal engineering.
Eligibility
- As per the basic eligibility criteria mentioned on the official website of IIT Madras, qualifying for the GATE entrance exam is not mandatory
- Candidates with a BTech degree from an IIT, with a CGPA of 8.0 (on a scale of 10) and above can apply directly for admission to the MTech programme.
Why to study ME/MTech Thermal Engineering?
- M. Tech program in Thermal Engineering equips students with advanced knowledge and skills crucial for tackling real-world challenges in energy systems, HVAC, aerospace, and more.
- Thermal engineering deals with the design of machines that minimize the heat produced in industrial processes to minimize the energy loss in the processes. These cooling systems should be cost effective, compact in size and easily utilized with maximum performance.
Scope of ME/MTech thermal Engineering
- After completing their M.Tech in Thermal Engineering, candidates can immediately begin looking for work. The employment function and position will have greater duties, and the pay package will be larger in comparison.
- Furthermore, you will be able to perform all of the activities productively because you will have a better grasp of technical stuff and a clearer thought process for the allotted jobs. Project Managers, Research Associates, and Senior Engineers can readily find work as Project Managers, Research Associates, and Senior Engineers after completing their M.Tech.
